I recently had the pleasure of working with a wonderful and talented lady. She wanted a primary bedroom makeover and was willing to put in quite a bit of work herself to get it! Jess was willing to paint walls and trim, and clean up and restore furniture. Of the two of us, she definitely worked the hardest, and all her effort paid off. She loves the space and so do I. The bedroom as it was before was not a bad space. It is a great size and has wonderful windows. For Jess and Jerry’s wedding, a dear friend made them their bed and they still love it. All the other pieces in their bedroom were starter things that Jess was now ready to replace.
I love this room so much. There are so many beautiful touches in the space. The major change that made the biggest impact in this primary bedroom makeover was painting the walls and trim. Painting the trim white brightens the space and makes it feel so fresh. The new colour of the walls makes the room feel bright and updated. I have actually fallen in love with it and I am considering painting a bunch of rooms in my house this colour now!
The bedside tables I found on Kijiji, and Jess refinished them. I love the farmhouse feel they give to the space.
The bedding is from IKEA and freshens up the space. While the colours are neutral, the layers of texture make it super inviting. And shall we talk about the art above the bed?
Jess had pinned many kinds of graphic art she loved, and I happen to know a very talented graphic designer named Hannah Nel who we commissioned to make this piece above the bed. She was so easy to work with. After talking to us about what we wanted, she came up with the print and took Jess’ input, and she ended up giving us exactly what we wanted. The frame was made out of some authentic old (and really hard!) barn wood that I had in my stash. If you need any graphic design work contact Hannah at [email protected]!
Jess is an amazing seamstress and even has her own business. She wanted a ladder blanket to display her handmade quilts. They are so beautiful and I love the colour that they add to the space.
There are a number of lovely things in this part of the room. We hung up the full-length mirror and added an old antique plough piece for hooks. The bag and the beautiful coat were made by Jess! Here is a closeup.
We also changed up the window dressings. They had vertical blinds before, and we took those down and added some bamboo roman shades. I love the added texture they give the room. We also found these great curtains at IKEA. They are modern and fresh and are a nice contrast to the more rustic elements in the space.
Jess loves plants, and I suggested that we add some into the room. I had a perfect idea for how to do this. When I was in St. Louis with my husband on a recent trip, I went antique shopping. I found grain bins that had this amazing patina and I thought they would be really cool planters. Jess gave me the go-ahead, so I brought them back and Jess put the planter together. This is one of the pieces in the room that I love most and I wish I had bought three extra bins to make my own! I just love them next to those curtains. Such a nice contrast to each other.
Here is one last shot of the room. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out this primary bedroom makeover! Is there a room in your house that needs a Reclaiming Home transformation? Visit my services page.
