My clients hired me with two different goals in mind. Part of the family wanted a room full of comfort to watch movies, have naps, and play video games. The other part wanted a stylish room that fit in with the rest of the house. So, I took both desires and combined them into one! Let’s begin with where we started.

Everything that was down here were bits and pieces from two households coming together. There was a half-sectional and a chair that was in rough shape. On the wish list was a functional desk area, storage, and most importantly a comfortable place to watch movies and play video games. I created a Design Plan that fulfilled all these wishes! Let’s get to the before and after pictures.

On the wish list was a big sectional. The room was long and needed a layout switch so they could get a large comfortable sectional in the room. For the wall where the TV was before, I suggested some black and white printed pictures of places that had special meaning to them. These pictures help create a beautiful vignette when you walk into the room.

The TV is now on the long wall. We created a long hallway next to the TV area to break up the space. It feels both more connected and spacious now.

We simplified the back wall with a favourite piece of art and a picture light to highlight it. Removing the furniture from the area creates a clear pathway into the room.

We created a clear office zone too. Switching out the light fixtures and adding some magnetic boards brought some style to the area. And the bookcase and wall cabinet add lots of extra storage for books, craft supplies, board games, and office needs.

The addition of the bookcase/console table fully divides the two zones plus gives my clients a place for drinks and snacks while watching movies.

This family room makeover added not only a lot more function and comfort, but beauty too. It is a place to work, craft, play games, watch TV, and relax, all the while being a beautiful extension of the rest of their home.
