Farmhouse Mudroom Makeover

Date

My friend lives in a farmhouse and wanted to give her mudroom a makeover. She had lots of great ideas but couldn’t figure out a cohesive plan. So, she asked me to create a Design Plan for her. Once she had her plan she got to work and completely transformed this room. She did almost all the work herself!

This was her first big DIY and I think she killed it. She laid new floors, installed the panelling, painted, and redid her closet storage.

The old closet doors were bifold and didn’t maximize the available storage space. She put new doors on and added drawers and a lot of interior shelving and organization.

She also painted the upper cabinet doors the same colour as the walls, making the room feel so much brighter.

We wanted to keep the church pew in the space, and I suggested she add wooden crates underneath for easy access storage for her family. There is one for each member of the family (including the dog!). In the winter they store hats and mittens and in the summer they store sandals, sunglasses, and sunhats.

She decorated the space with mostly secondhand items. The antique sifters she found at an auction. They make great sculptural art, don’t you think?

This is the stairwell leading to their main living level and their basement. She found the antique wood doors and added them to the space. She also added that amazing tile to the stairs. It plays off the other flooring so well.

Most mudrooms don’t have room for a full length mirror but since there was so much space, it made sense to add one. It bounces light, plus it gives the family a place to do last-minute checks before they head out the door.

One of the biggest changes is the panelling. It adds so much texture, warmth, and character to this room.

The room really needed a large light fixture. My client found this one secondhand, and it is the perfect addition to the space. She got it for a fraction of the cost of buying it new and it makes such a statement!

My friend worked so hard and did such an amazing job giving her mudroom this makeover. I loved working with her ideas and style to create a clear plan that she executed perfectly.
