My clients wanted to make over their living room. They were combining households and needed a space that felt fresh, updated, and well-suited to hold all the members of their new, large family. The room felt dark and dated, and it had very tall ceilings that made the room feel cold. So, I created a personal Design Plan for them that checked all the boxes, and they implemented it beautifully!
A lighter, more neutral colour palette made the room feel brighter. And, the new curtains that frame the window add a layer of texture and softness to the space, making it feel warmer.
I suggested they add panelling to the back wall and larger art to bring the tall ceilings down. This helps the room feel more balanced and cozier.
With the lighter colour scheme, the fireplace really shines. My clients wanted to leave the TV above the fireplace, so we just cleaned up the cords. Now, the family can all watch TV in the same space, but the room is just as beautiful when used as a formal entertaining room.
The coffee table was handmade by one of my clients, and they really loved it, but it had seen better days. So, I suggested refinishing it with a brighter stain. The colour looks beautiful in the new space!
One of my favourite changes was this back wall because I think the new panelling, art, and sideboard brought balance back to the room.
A new, larger-scale rug grounds the conversation area and makes all the pieces feel connected.
Even though this room had excellent bones, it had some challenges. It needed a lot of seating, everyone had to be able to watch TV at the same time, and the extra-tall ceilings made the space feel colder than my clients wanted. By working together, we transformed their home from cold to warm, dark to bright, disconnected to inviting.
