After working on my clients’ upstairs family room, they wanted help to make over a blank white box into a big-girl bedroom for their oldest daughter. They wanted her to feel excited about the change from a nursery to her new, more grown-up space, and they thought having a beautiful room would make the transition easier. And I was more than willing to take on the challenge. Soft, pretty, and cozy was the inspiration for this space.
My clients had leftover panelling from their family room makeover. So, we used it in their daughter’s new room. The panelling creates a lot of character and depth, and painting it a gorgeous colour (and the trim to match!) elevates the look.
Painting the trim, doors, and panelling the same soft pink taupe makes the room feel so cohesive and elegant. When the paint was dry, we added a small board with pegs, painted the same colour, to give Ruby a spot for her hats and bags.
The gorgeous new curtains from Two Pages also add so much softness and texture to the space.
The beautiful wallpaper contains the same tones as the panelling and the curtains. This pretty and whimsical pattern works beautifully for a little girl, but will also grow with her as she gets older.
There is plenty of space for their little girl to craft and play in the room. We placed everything at her level for easy access. But then, this can change as she grows up! We designed the space to easily adapt as she gets bigger.
We looked at several samples of wallpaper, but ultimately landed on this one because it feels age-appropriate but not juvenile.
