When Clarity Kids Health Group asked me to help create a special space for their clients’ parents, I jumped at the chance. The goal was to create a parents’ nook so that when parents were waiting for their kids to finish appointments or assessments, they had an area to work in or a quiet spot to take a breath.
We were starting from a clean slate, and they envisioned a cozy coffee bar feeling for the space. I created a custom Design Plan so they could bring their ideas to life.

They wanted desk space and charging docks so parents would have a place to work. This is especially helpful when patients are undergoing assessments, because these can take a significant amount of time.

We added brick wallpaper to two of the walls. This helped create the cozy cafe feeling my client envisioned. We added a chalkboard. My client later added the Wi-Fi information and reminded parents that complimentary beverages were available as they waited.

We also wanted to provide a soft place to sit for parents who didn’t want to work but still needed a quiet space to relax while waiting. Adding in this comfortable chair with a table and lamp makes this a cozy spot to read or even nap.

We also repurposed a bookcase they already owned. We placed some simple decorative items, books, and activities on the shelves.

What I love about this makeover is how much impact a few simple changes can have on any space. This area is at the end of a hallway and could easily have been used as storage or just left empty. But Clarity Kids saw it as an opportunity to care for their patients and their families. Your space doesn’t have to be big or completely renovated to be more functional or comfortable. Being thoughtful about how spaces should be used and how we want them to feel can make a significant difference. Do you have an idea for a room but aren’t sure how to bring it to life? Reclaiming Home can help.
