When I was designing the Montorio Novaro show home, I wanted to showcase a warm and inviting home. So, I blended traditional and modern elements for cozy spaces that feel fresh and current. Today I’m sharing the main floor, and I hope you love it as much as I do.

The living room is at the front of the house with a beautiful fireplace as its main focal point. I wanted the seating area to be inviting and elegant.

Since the living room has such large windows and receives beautiful natural light, I framed the curtains with brown linen pinch-pleat curtains. This draws the eye to the window and adds great texture and colour. The tall plant pot from Crate and Barrel ties in perfectly with the curtains.

Right off the living room and entryway, there is a great little nook that makes a perfect command centre. It’s big enough to hold a small desk, and adding a mirror gives you a place to check your appearance before leaving the house. I made sure the styling fit in well with the rest of the beautiful main floor.

In between the living room and the kitchen is the dining room. I love that the walls clearly define the space, and I created even more definition by adding a round wool rug. The rug is so soft and creates clear paths around the table. I knew the table needed a gorgeous chandelier to light it, and I love this modern take on a classic candle chandelier from Park Lighting. It is so soft and pretty.

I kept the dining room colours mostly neutral with just a small pop of green. The space is so pretty and flows so beautifully with the living room and the kitchen.

In the kitchen, I went with a traditional feel with a slightly modern edge. A neutral colour palette helps most people picture themselves in the space. However, instead of a traditional white cabinet colour, we went with white on the walls and countertop and a soft mushroom for the cabinets.

The marriage of traditional elements (backsplash, light fixtures, and hardware) with modern elements (slim shaker profile, backsplash pattern, and hood) creates a space that feels fresh yet classic and inviting.

This main floor is a beautiful example of how to have a cohesive flow to an open area while creating cozy spaces that feel warm and inviting.
