A Tiny Bathroom Makeover!

Date

My tiny bathroom in my primary suite needed a makeover. The storage wasn’t great, and the floor had seen much better days. So I came up with a design plan and got to work. I removed the vanity, the floors, and the toilet. I laid new floors. My father-in-law and son helped me hang the wallpaper and install the vanity, faucet, and new light fixture. Lastly, I styled it with some of my favourite second-hand items. Here’s where we started.

One of the main reasons we wanted to do this makeover was the storage. The vanity had open cabinets that were just not functional, and we really wanted some drawer storage. The other was that the floors were in rough shape. I fell in love with this vanity while sourcing for clients and have always loved these floors, so I took the plunge.

The drawers fit all my toiletries much more neatly, and the new, taller vanity is a much better height since my husband and I are taller. The floors are so fresh and clean. I was also very excited about changing the light fixture. While I loved the farmhouse light, it did not provide much light. The new three-light fixture makes the space feel so much brighter!

Now that we had excellent storage in the vanity, we didn’t need the open shelving above the toilet. I love how much cleaner the space feels without the open storage. I love how the gold in the light fixture, faucet, vanity hardware, and toilet paper holder flows together.

Along with the new floor, vanity, faucet, and light fixture, I repurposed the toilet paper holder by spray painting it gold to match the other metals in the room. I kept my favourite piece of art that I found at Goodwill, hung up the antique butchering racks I found at an antique store in North Carolina, rehung the vintage coat hooks that I bought at a flea market in Paris, and styled the vanity with a thrifted candlestick and wooden planer I am using as a soap holder.

This bathroom makeover has created such a beautiful note in our home. Not only is it more functional for our daily use, but it also makes me smile every time I enter the room. It would be easy to see such a small room and think it isn’t worth the effort to transform it, but a few changes can make a significant impact on how you feel in your home.
